The Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE) has emphasized once again to minimize the industrial responsibility in the process of reducing Greenhouse Gas. The MKE is in the process of devising a master plan regarding to the matter of Greenhouse Gas Reduction. And setting a policy to encourage each company's urgent participation is the first obstacle that the government must face.

Korean parts and material recorded the trade surplus in 2009 despite of a global economic downturn. The Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE) announced that the country's trade balance last year posted US$51.3 billion with US$171 billion exports and US$119.7 billion imports.

Most of the credit goes to semiconductors, LCDs, electronic components, and optical fibers. It was a record-breaking 2009 for electronic components, for example, it increased by 2.6 percent to set the record at US$63.2 billion.

The Ministry of Knowledge and Economy in cooperation with  UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) opened IR sessions for Korea-Africa Infrastructure and Energy at Seoul Renaissance Hotel.

At the sessions, agency orders for public businesses and government officials, high ranking officers from UNECA and NEPAD (New Partnership for Development), ambassadors from African countries, and CEOs from construction, plant, and energy corporations participated.

On Monday, December 14th, at 12:30 Choi Kyung-hwan, the minister of knowledge economy, held the "Seoul Japan Club luncheon meeting" at the Mapo Garden Hotel Mugunghwa Hall. There, he listened to suggestions made in relation to corporate activities of Japanese companies residing in Korea, and encouraged Japanese companies with word about an increase in investment funds.

Choi Kyung-hwan, the minister of knowledge economy, held the 'tech+ forum', at Sheraton Walkerhill Hotel at 10:00AM on Dec 9, 2009 with the slogan, 'Ideas Changing The World' in front of 500 audiences, selected as those known for setting worldly trends in various fields to lecture about the topic "Korea and its new growth strategy to the new economic order after the crisis".

Despite the global economic crisis, major industries including IT, shipbuilding, and automobiles remained successful in overseas markets. For the first time Korea is expected to be ranked among the top 10 global exporting countries. On Nov. 24, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy analyzed the export record and the results showed that Korea exported US$260 billion worth of goods from January to September, remaining at ninth place.

Choi Kyung-hwan, the Minster of Knowledge Economy attended the '6th Korea-China Investment Cooperation Committee on Nov 23, 2009. About 40 representatives from both countries including Chen Deming, the Minister of Chinese Commerce were present at the event. After Choi made a keynote speech, the representatives had discussions for the future cooperation.
