On August 5, KT had a promotional meeting which was organized by the Cloud Computing Project Management Office. They announced a comprehensive strategy which included cloud computing services for enterprise. Cloud computing is an internet-based computing service that uses technologies such as virtualization renting IT resources and while only paying the usage costs.
According to KT, when IT enterprises adopt the Cloud Computing service, the enterprise can reduce IT costs up to 90 percent.
So far, the Internet Data Center (IDC) has been handling the core business and operational data of the organization over the internet. However, it is impossible to merge all the data productively. Issues such as physical layout and energy broke out with the use of the IDC.
Unlike IDC, cloud computing is able to efficiently manage resources. Customers can choose the CPU and data storage as the smallest unit which makes for an affordable service. Also, it will contribute to the fostering of the domestic software industry and green IT.
Based on KT's simulation, when a company induces cloud computing service, they can cut down the IT costs up to 90 percent compared to other hosting services. In addition, it has device and location independence, which allows users to access systems using a web brewer.
KT plans to release advancement corporative cloud computing by investing KRW 120 billion by 2011. Before that, KT is going to unveil 'ucloud pro', which is data management and operation service for SME (Small Medium Enterprises).
The director of Cloud Computing Project Management Office in KT, Suh Jeong-sik said "We will do everything we can do to be a global cloud provider in the future through accumulation management know-how and localization of the cloud operating system software."
