It has expanded its OLED lineup to more than 10 types, and its target sales volume for 2021 is more than five times higher than last year's.

Samsung Display, which mass-produced OLED for laptops for the first time in the industry, is going to target the laptop market by introducing more than 10 different kinds of products in 2021.

Samsung Display announced on Jan. 3 that it plans to introduce a wide range of products with a total of more than 10 types by diversifying screen sizes and detailed specifications from 13.3 to 16 types after introducing new products with UHD in 2019 and QHD and FHD resolutions in 2020.

In particular, it is planning to focus on volume zones in the laptop market with 15.6 models with the same resolution starting in February after introducing 13.3 FHD products for the first time at the end of last year.

While expanding its product portfolio this year, Samsung Display predicts that sales of OLED for laptops will increase more than five times compared to last year due to positive markets such as non-face-to-face and high-end demand.

As leading global IT companies such as Lenovo, Asus, Dell, and HP introduced laptops with OLED last year, Samsung Display plans to expand the OLED laptop market by securing more customers this year.

"As demand for teleworking, online classes, and gaming has soared due to the influence of COVID-19, IT markets including laptops are booming," said Kim Sung-chul, president of the small and medium-sized display business division. "Just as Samsung OLED has dominated the smartphone market with its flexible design and differentiated image, it will expand its share in the notebook market."

Meanwhile, Samsung Display succeeded in developing OLED displays for laptops with UHD resolution for the first time in the world in 2019 and started to enter premium notebook markets.

Samsung OLED is easy to implement slim bezel and variety of designs as it is structurally simpler than LCD. It is also considered to be an optimal display for portable IT devices such as laptops, smartphones and tablet PCs as its panels are thin and light.
