CJ OliveNetworks announced on April 15 that it has signed a MOU with the Gwangju Metropolitan City and the Kwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) to foster the artificial intelligence (AI) industry.
The signing ceremony was held at Gwangju City Hall with officials, including Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-sup, GIST Acting President Kim In-soo, and CJ OliveNetworks CEO Cha In-hyuk.
Major agreements include ▲ Training of professionals to foster the artificial intelligence industry ▲ Developing and operating employment-linked programs ▲ Conducting technical and policy advice in IT services such as AI big data analysis ▲ Creating jobs through the establishment of the second research institute ▲ Promoting joint industrial-academic research.
CJ OliveNetworks, the Gwangju Metropolitan City and GIST plan to promote mutual understanding and cooperation to create an AI ecosystem in Gwangju.
Gwangju Metropolitan City will develop and operate support programs for fostering AI industries, education of professionals, and employment-linked programs.
CJ OliveNetworks will establish a second research institute in Gwangju to promote technology and policy advisory performance in general IT service areas such as AI big data analysis, and to foster human resources and create jobs.
GIST plans to operate and provide programs to foster AI professionals, cooperate with international joint research, and promote joint industrial-academic research with CJ OliveNetworks.
"In order for the artificial intelligence industry to succeed, three conditions must be met: integrated complex, talent, and budget, and the agreement will help meet the three prerequisites for success," said Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-sup. "Let's all work together to make Gwangju an AI powerhouse."
