Introducing efforts to reduce carbon emissions through innovative technologies and logistics systems such as the introduction of eco-bags

Coupang's rocket delivery model will be introduced as an eco-friendly model through logistics innovation at the "2021 P4G Seoul Summit" to be held in Seoul in May.

The P4G (Partnering for Green Growth and Global Goals Solidarity for Global Goal 2030) summit is an environmental international conference involving  governments, companies and civil societies. This year's event will be held non-face-to-face in Seoul for two days from May 30-31.

Coupang is the only Korean e-commerce company to participate in the corporate collaboration of the 2021 P4G Seoul Summit and signed a business agreement (MOU) on April 20 to cooperate to realize its carbon neutral vision through inclusive green recovery.

Coupang is recognized worldwide for its dramatic reduction in carbon emissions compared to traditional e-commerce models through innovative technologies and logistics systems.

Trillions of won have been used for its own 'end-to-end' logistics network to strengthen its own model, rocket delivery services, and greatly reduce environmental waste and other inefficiencies generated by traditional e-commerce.

The existing e-commerce model is a structure in which sellers receive the goods from the manufacturer, repackage them for delivery to customers, and send them to the delivery company. For this reason, it is necessary to go through various logistics companies, and a lot of buffers and packaging materials should be used to prevent damage to goods in the process.

On the other hand, rocket delivery services can greatly reduce packaging material consumption because Coupang directly manages all processes through an end-to-end method that buys and delivers most products directly.

In particular, AI technology optimizes movements and even designates the location of individual products in the vehicle to enable safe delivery. As a result, more than 75% of Coupang's rocket shipments are shipped in single-layered bags without boxes or other unnecessary packaging.

Furthermore, Coupang has completely eliminated styrofoam boxes used in the existing industry for fresh food delivery and introduced its own recycled eco-bag. Eco bags are containers that Coupang's shipping staff retrieve and recycle after cleaning and sterilization on the next delivery after customers put them in front of the door.

"We are happy to be selected as an official participant in the P4G summit to achieve climate change and carbon neutrality amid growing awareness of the importance of ESG. We will lead the e-commerce industry's carbon neutrality efforts by expanding investments in eco-bag use and electric vehicle delivery."
