It makes inroad to identify key diseases such as the African Swine Flu (ASF)

uLikeKorea, a livestock health management company, successfully developed a pig health management ICT solution and obtained the patent rights. The technology enables the users to manage pig related diseases, estrus and birthing and take early action in preventing major diseases and deaths.

Heejin Kim (CEO, uLikeKorea) stated “after 3 years of R&D, we were able to successfully develop a pig health management ICT device. We plan to launch our Livecare pig service later this year and focus on not only the domestic, but major markets such as Europe and Latin America.

uLikeKorea has also developed other livestock health management devices for animals that are critical to our food chain such as cattle, calf, sheep, chicken and horses.

Kim further stated “many pig farms are concerned with ASF and with our device, it became possible to detect the symptoms of this destructive disease in its early stage. Our service is the only service in the world that can provide an early detection (and therefore early action) to pig related diseases.

The Livecare pig device is inserted into the uterus of the pig with a battery life of one year. The device can be re-used once the batter is replaced and this is a key benefit for the users.

The device can check for the pig’s hormone, activity level, and temperature in a real time basis and by using the low power LoRA (Long Range) telecom technology, can obtain data through its gateway up to 100 meters.

In addition, the collected data is then sent to the Cloud server and uLikeKorea’s key Artificial Intelligence technology would analyze the data to provide individualized health management service to the users.

uLikeKorea’s R&D team estimated that by using the Livecare pig service, it can help with each pig to produce up to 1-2 additional piglets per year which would help to increase the overall production for the industry. Kim also mentioned “with the global market having over 650 million pigs, we believe we took an important step towards contributing in rejuvenating this market. We plan to start with advanced markets such as Denmark, and reach out to Japan, Brazil, the US, etc. We aim to provide our service to the domestic breeding pig market (500,000 pigs) by next year and prepare to enter the global market.”

Kim further mentioned that they have already obtained the patent rights from the Korea PTO and have filed for global patent rights through PCT starting with the Japanese market.

uLikeKorea officially launched its service in October 2015 and continued to develop livestock ICT and AI based health management devices through its brand LiveCare. It has been commercialized in Korea and Japan and is expanding into EU, US and the Latin American markets. uLikeKorea’s Livecare products cover critical food supply chain related livestock animals such as cow, calf, sheep, chicken, horse, pigs and is already servicing the premium Hanwoo and Wagyu markets.
