SK Hynix received approval from Taiwan's antitrust regulators for its acquisition of Intel NAND Flash Business Department.
According to Taiwanese media on June 10, Taiwan's Fair Trade Commission (FTC) announced on the same day that it approved SK Hynix's acquisition of Intel NAND business.
SK Hynix is expected to pass the antitrust reviews of China, Britain, Singapore and Brazil in the future since it was approved by the Taiwan following the U.S., the EU and South Korea.
Among them, China is expected to make the most difficult reviews. Because China is fiercely competing against the U.S. for semiconductors, it is putting a brake on M&A for semiconductor business.
Nvidia is also struggling to acquire ARM due to China. It is highly likely that the Chinese government will not accept the acquisition and a lawsuit between ARM headquarters and ARM China took place. Three years ago, China canceled Qualcomm's acquisition of NXP, a semiconductor manufacturer for vehicles.
However, SK Hynix and Intel are planning to focus on completing ongoing reviews successfully by end of this year.
Currently SK Hynix's NAND flash business is currently ranked 5th in global market and Intel is maintaining 6th place. It is predicted that Samsung Electronics will become the second-largest global market after Samsung Electronics.
