Samsung Engineering succeeded in producing its first piping through smart robot automation.

The company announced on June 23 that it had a prototype shipment ceremony for Smart Piping Shop.

The shipment ceremony, which took place on June 22 at a production plant in Goseong-gun, South Gyeongsang Province, was attended by Samsung Engineering CEO Choi Sung-an, Hyundai Robotics CEO Kang Cheol-ho, Taekchang Engineering CEO Kwak Tae-young, and Goseong-gun's Baekdoo-hyun County.

Samsung Engineering and Hyundai Robotics signed a business agreement in December last year to automate the production of pipes and steel frames.

It completed development of piping manufacturing automation facilities in May and shipped its first product after a trial period such as performance test. This is the world's first case of automating a core process of piping spool welding.

The two companies signed an agreement on expanding types and processes of piping automation and plan to continue to expand cooperation.

Manufacturing automation of steel frames is also in the start-up stage after completing the development of facilities, and prototypes are expected to be shipped in the second half of this year.

Samsung Engineering is expecting to improve quality, shorten construction period, and reduce production cost through automation of piping and steel frames. Piping and steel frames are important materials that serve as blood vessels and skeletons of plants, respectively, and have a large role in the entire construction period and cost of the project.

The company expects the automation to significantly strengthen EPC competitiveness by managing the uniform quality of pipes and steel frames, stable production, solving problems with lack of skilled workers overseas, and preventing safety accidents.

Samsung Engineering is also planning to secure stable profits by commercializing robot automation technology. The company, which is continuously striving to secure future growth engines such as commercialization of innovative solutions, is expected to actively seek out customized business models through research and development of robot automation technologies.
