Naver, a top web portal operator and IT company in South Korea announced on July 5th that it has been granted 22 patents related to Naver's world's first robot-friendly building. They are currently constructing their new office building that will use this technology, which will be located beside their current building.
In order to build a robot-friendly building that has never existed before, Naver will apply the future technologies it has accumulated in their new office building.
The second office building, which is currently under construction, is next to the Green Factory of Naver's headquarters in Bundang of Seongnam City in Seoul Capital Area, South Korea. This is a 'Technological Convergence Building' in which various technologies such as robots, autonomous driving, artificial intelligence (AI), and cloud-connected will be installed. This building will be completed by the end of this year.
Employees are expected to experience new workspaces where space itself becomes a secretary, such as access to space through face recognition and delivery using autonomous robots.
This building is operated by a cloud robot system. There will be spaces for robots, elevators dedicated to robots, a passageway dedicated to robots, and a charging space. For this, technical factors such as robot control that monitors the movements of multiple robots, accident prevention technology, and ultra-low latency communication and control through a 5G specific network are all included.
Naver has 97 patents regarding ARC that is Naver’s cloud robot system that applies brainless robot technology, 76 patents regarding ARC-controlled indoor service robots and convenience technologies, such as AMBIDEX and Around, and 42 patents regarding base technologies including Indoor mapping technology, automation of indoor mapping updates, and obstacle recognition technology to operate robots in the robot-friendly building.
Including 22 patents applied for this time, Naver will have a total of 237 patents regarding robot-friendly buildings. Also, the number of patents will increase further as there are also applications that are being prepared for later on.
Seok Sang-ok, CEO of Naver Labs, said, "Naver's second office building, the world's first robot-friendly building, will be a global reference space where 5G specific network, cloud, robot, autonomous driving, digital twin, and AI are connected and converge into one."
