In the history of human development, the British economist Thomas Malthus (1766 - 1834) predicted in his book, Theories on Population Growth(1798), that the population would grow exponentially until the limited earth's land resources collapse due to food production, where the laws of diminishing harvests apply.

However, Fritz Haber (1918), of German-Polish ancestry, contributed to a dramatic increase in food production by developing a technology to produce ammonia by combining nitrogen, which accounts for 70% of the air, with hydrogen which, along with potassium phosphate, make up the three major elements of fertilizer.

Later generations called this the first industrial revolution, and since then, the entire earth has changed into one market, one buyer, and one seller with the invention and distribution of steam locomotives, electricity, and computers.

We refer to this long journey as the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th industrial revolutions. Competition and cooperation were further accelerated by grouping countries into developed countries and developing countries or G2 and G7 countries, which enabled competition between countries.

As Arnold J. Toynbee (1889-1975), a professor of sociology at the University of London, UK, argued in A Study of History, the results depend on how internal and external challenges are overcome. In that regard, we see in many places the phenomenon of division into the rulers and the dependent, the haves and the have-nots, and the happy and the unhappy.

The airplane, invented in 1903 by the Wright brothers in the United States, and the first smartphone, the iPhone launched by Steve Jobs in 2007, made the U.S. a wealthy country and it became the world's superpower. As a result, the reality is that the U.S. is dominating the world by putting a distance of 46,250 km around the earth within a single fence.

Right now, countries around the world on all 6 continents, without exception, have suffered daily disasters due to the COVID-19 virus. Even though there are countless methods and technologies to overcome it, there is no sure way to solve this problem. During our own efforts, social encounters, which are the simple happiness of mankind, are being controlled. As a result, it is impossible to list the consequent social deterioration and economic losses of the country. The solution to overcoming this challenge is to either eliminate the source of the coronavirus generators altogether, or the world's pharmaceutical companies must perfect the vaccine and, as we've seen in the fight against measles and tuberculosis, completely overcome it with vaccination. Otherwise, even though it is not something we want to do, we might just have to find a way to live in coexistence with the virus.

I hope that alternative technologies to overcome these two challenges will develop into the fifth industrial revolution and contribute to the universal happiness and prosperity of mankind. It is a well-known fact that the development and activation of Metaverse technology must be carried out for all industries and societies to interact in a non-face-to-face manner. For this to be applied meaningfully and practically, the transition from the current 5G communication speed to 6G and the rapid development of quantum computers are urgently needed. The reason for this is that 5G and 6G can be connected and used without needing unreasonably ultra-high frequency band aircraft using satellites, such as the Korean Mugunghwa satellite, as well as the differences in performance as shown below.

To put it simply, it takes 16 seconds for 4G, 0.6 seconds for 5G, and 0.016 seconds for 6G to stream a single 2GB movie. The development of quantum computers and solid-state drives (SSDs) is a necessary and sufficient requirement for activating Metabuses, that is multi-directional virtual communication worlds, and applying them to all industries, including all medical practices, without strain.

A Quantum computer is a supercomputer that can perform calculations within 1 second that would be absolutely impossible with conventional computers. The world of small atoms that could not be explained by Newtonian mechanics at the beginning of the 20th century is now better known. Quantum computers are qubits that implement the physical properties of quantum superposition and quantum entanglement in a state where signals of 0 and 1 are mixed. That is, if qubits of quantum bit 0 and 1 are used, 4 qubits such as 00.01.10.11 are signified and If qubits of N are used, it refers to a computer with powerful computational power that simultaneously processes qubits which can be displayed as many as of N to 2. Quantum entanglement is a principle in which two protons, such as atoms or ions, behave as if they are logically connected to each other no matter how far apart they are, and when one state changes, the other changes as well and works.

If these algorithms are used for computer communication, hacking can be prevented, so the world is competing for quantum cryptography communication and quantum computer development.  In 2019, Google surpassed the wall of supercomputers by developing “Sycamore,” a quantum computer chip with 50 qubits.

IBM is currently running a 65-qubit “Hummingbird processor” and says it will soon release a 127-qubit quantum computer called “Eagle.” Subsequently, IBM is working hard to develop quantum computers, heralding the development of the "Osprey system," which increased the number of qubits to 433 in 2022, followed by the development of "Condors" that exceed the number of qubits 1121.

The U.S. has already launched the “National Quantum Informatization Strategy” in 2018 and the UK “National Quantum Technology Program (UKNQT) Hub” to prepare faithfully for the next generation. Just over 30 years ago, the development of computer technology and the limited supply of IPV4 (Internet Protocol version 4) Internet connection nodes made the IoT world a reality with infinite access along with the development of IPV6 and 5G communication. As a result, it has brought about great changes in people's daily lives as well as in the formation of value in all fields, such as politics, economy, industry, education, and distribution. In retrospect, the first industrial revolution was the invention of steam engines and electricity, the second industrial revolution was mass production using them, the third industrial revolution was the invention of computers, and the fourth industrial revolution was the realization of an information society using them. The invention and the use of objects have been developed alternately.

In view of this phenomenon, the 5th industrial revolution will be an invention of something again, and I am convinced that the advent of quantum computers is an invention that will lead to the 5th industrial revolution. The development of quantum technology will not only take a major step forward in science and technology, but will bring about innovative changes throughout the economy, industry, and national defense. Quantum technology, with the advent of quantum computers, will identify the scientific revolution that will change the world's paradigm once again, as well as the creation and distribution routes of viruses such as incurable diseases and corona through gene and genome analysis and processed as big data.  This will help us find the cause of a global disaster based on scientific evidence and prepare for it. Although Newtonian mechanics couldn't be explained, quantum technology is a power that can reconstruct national hegemony as well as the rapid development of the weapons system that strengthens national defense thanks to the inexplicable detail of ultra-precision sensors.

There is overconfidence in the commercialization and potential level of quantum technology. However, in reality, there is not much of a ripple effect and an alternative to that would be more beneficial for the future of the country to preoccupy the technology by understanding and complementing its potential and ripple effect. There are leaders in the development of quantum technology, but no country has an absolute advantage yet.

Considering the research environment when Korea started developing semiconductors, although it started late, it is thought that the capabilities of the world's strongest semiconductor myth can be fully demonstrated in the current quantum technology. This is especially true in the past history of South Korea, which was a latecomer to semiconductors, but then eventually became a powerhouse of semiconductors. Now, I hope that Korea will become the epicenter of the 5th industrial revolution by reflecting on the importance of quantum technology and computers and systematically and meticulously establishing the ripple effect and utilization strategies in each field.
