Over the last three years, more than 200 million people started playing PC games, driving the total number of users up from 1.55 billion in 2019 to 1.77 billion in 2021. Gaming websites are usually the number one choice to keep this massive user base informed and updated about new releases and trends in the gaming world.

According to data presented by MejoresApuestas.com, Twitch.tv and Roblox.com represent the gaming websites globally, with a 20% share in total desktop traffic in the games subcategory.

One in Five Twitch.tv Users is from the United States

Twitch has gained massively in popularity during COVID-19 lockdowns, and its user base has continued growing ever since. The Statista and SimilarWeb data showed that Twitch.tv was the leading gaming website worldwide in June. The video streaming platform accounted for nearly 10.5% of desktop traffic in the games subcategory during the measured period.

Statistics also revealed that the United States accounted for around 23% of Twitch's global desktop traffic in the six months ending June. Germany ranked as the second-largest market, with a further 6.7% share of the streaming platform's desktop traffic. Canada, Russia, and France followed, with a 4.2% and 4.1% market share, respectively.

According to SimilarWeb ranking, Roblox.com was the second most popular gaming website globally. Initially released for PC in 2006, the free-to-play gaming Roblox became an instant hit drawing millions of players from across the globe each day. Although the service has also branched out into other forms of online entertainment, like virtual concerts and fan meetups, games are still the beating heart of the platform.

Statistics show that Roblox.com accounted for over 10% of the global desktop traffic in the gaming category in June or 0.4% less than the leading Twitch.

Steam the Third Most-Popular Gaming Website with 1.4% of All Visits

Far behind Twitch and Roblox.com, Steam ranked third on the list, with a 1.41% share in the total desktop traffic in the games subcategory. However, statistics show Valve's video games distribution platform set a new record this year.

In April, Steam hit an all-time high with close to 27 million current users. However, the number of new releases on the platform dropped in 2021. In 2019, the platform released over 8,000 new gaming titles. Last year, the number of new releases jumped to a staggering 10,263, the highest annual number to date. However, during the first six months of 2021, the total number of new gaming titles dropped to 3,031.

The SimilarWeb data showed free game-based learning platform Kahoot.it was the fourth most popular gaming website globally with a 0.4% share of desktop traffic in the games subcategory. Pch.com followed with a 0.26% market share, respectively.
