LG Display announced on September 12 that it supplied 55-inch transparent organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) for interior use to the parking lot of "Kakao T Parking" in COEX, Samseong-dong, Seoul.
Transparent OLEDs were installed at six main entrances that connect the parking lot and the store. By attaching a panel to an existing glass window to save space, the clear image quality and excellent sense of openness create an effect as if glass is a display.
Visitors can see fresh sights such as welcome greetings using Kakao Mobility brand images through a transparent screen.
LG Display also supplied a 55-inch OLED panel for digital signage for parking lot infotainment systems such as "Kakao T Parking" usage information and customer participatory advertisements.
This supply is to provide a differentiated parking service experience with cutting-edge displays, as Kakao Mobility is nurturing COEX as a city center smart mobility base. COEX is a representative landmark visited by 40 million people annually, and the parking facility is also the largest among domestic buildings.
“We will continue to create innovative space designs and differentiated information delivery methods with transparent OLEDs,” said Cho Min-woo, in charge of transparent tasks at LG Display.
"LG Display's OLED enables large-scale digital signage as well as content that provides user benefits, which is expected to achieve another innovation in parking service," said Choi Yun-gyu, director of Kakao Mobility Infrastructure Business Team.
Meanwhile, LG Display has commercialized 55-inch transparent OLED with 40 percent transparency since 2019. Transparent OLEDs emit light by themselves without a backlight, making it possible to implement thin and light designs with high transparency.
This OLED is being applied to store show windows, signage, and railway cabin windows. In the future, the company is pushing for expansion into various fields such as autonomous vehicles, aircraft, and home interiors.
