On November 11, SK Telecom introduced an operating model for commercialization of UAM in the metropolitan area with Korea Airports Corporation and Hanwha Systems.
SKT and its partner companies comprehensively demonstrated the relevant core competencies in the service, infrastructure, and research fields of UAM, called air taxi, through the K-UAM airport demonstration at Gimpo International Airport.
SKT established a stable connection between the UAM pilot and the ground control center, which circled the sky outside Gimpo International Airport for about 3 minutes, through the air and ground mobile communication network.
The demonstration is to check whether the integrated system that can safely control UAMs when flying in and out of the airport, and the service that allows customers using UAM to use airport facilities and transfer to other modes of transportation quickly and conveniently, are operating normally.
SKT also succeeded in controlling autonomous flying drones in connection with the K-Drone System.
This demonstrated the technology that can be managed in an integrated way from aircraft using airports and UAM to unmanned aerial vehicles through ICT technology.
Tmap Mobility introduced a next-generation mobility platform that conveniently connects urban traffic and UAM.
At the demonstration site, the scene of the arrival of the assigned transfer vehicle according to the landing time of the passenger who flew in the UAM was implemented in VR.
Korea Airports Corporation implemented the UAM airport demonstration for the first time in Korea and, at the same time, implemented the Future Vertiport using the UAM-aircraft integrated control system and business aviation terminal.
Hanwha Systems exhibited a real model of the butterfly, a five-seater air mobility aircraft that flies safely and quickly at a maximum speed of 320 km/h.
UAM is an electric vehicle-based air mobility service that is powered by electricity.
Meanwhile, South Korean government is accelerating the demonstration of airport shuttle service in the metropolitan area with the goal of commercializing it in 2025.
