Hyundai Rotem has succeeded in winning an order for an urban railway project worth 207.8 billion won in Taiwan.
Hyundai Rotem announced on November 16 that it has won a KRW 207.8 billion won turn key project for the northern extension of the Kaohsiung Red Line from the Kaohsiung Municipal Railway Bureau (KMRTB) in Taiwan in the form of a consortium with Singapore's ST Engineering Electronics Limited (STEE).
This project is to extend the existing Red Line by 9.3 km (6 stations), and Hyundai Rotem plans to supply electric vehicles, electric power, and catenary lines.
Kaohsiung City, with a population of about 2.8 million, is a representative port city located in southwestern Taiwan. The role of urban railways is so important that it is called “the second city” in Taiwan.
The Red Line, which Hyundai Rotem won the order, runs vertically through the city and is a key line connecting Kaohsiung International Airport and the train station.
This train supplied by Hyundai Rotem focuses on compatibility with existing routes, while adding an air conditioning system that automatically supplies comfortable indoor air according to the carbon dioxide concentration.
The company has also applied technology to check the safety and convenience of passengers, such as strengthening the emergency braking capability.
The train operates at a speed of 80 km/h, and the Train Control and Monitoring System (TCMS) developed by the company is applied.
By using TCMS, it is possible to automatically analyze vehicle status and failure information at the vehicle base, reducing maintenance costs, and simultaneously achieving energy-saving effects through high-efficiency operation pattern analysis.
The red line to which Hyundai Rotem's E&M will be applied is also planned for a second extension in the future, so the possibility of additional orders for the electric vehicle and E&M business is expected.
With this order, Hyundai Rotem expects to gain more momentum in entering the Taiwanese railway market.
