Korea Hydro & Nuclear Powe (KHNP) announced on December 6 that the Korea-US nuclear cooperation workshop was held at the American Atomic Energy Association conference room in Washington DC, USA on December 2nd and 3rd to find ways to cooperate between Korea and the US nuclear industry.
From Korea, KHNP, Korea Atomic Energy Industry Association, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, Korea International Atomic Energy University, and Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials participated.
From the United States, nuclear-related organizations such as the National Atomic Energy Association (NEI), the Atlantic Council, NuScale, and Terra Power, as well as private companies and research institutes participated.
In the workshop, experts from both countries explored ways to cooperate in nuclear power projects, and in particular, discussed ways to cooperate in the development of small module reactors.
KHNP signed a business agreement with the Utilities Service Alliance (USA), an American nuclear power plant operator group, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington DC, USA on December 3rd.
By joining USA, the KHNP decided to work together to build a sustainable nuclear power plant ecosystem through exchanges and cooperation with USA member companies.
“USA has supported its nuclear operating members to consistently build and maintain the highest levels of efficiency," said Joel Gebbie, President of the USA Association. "We hope that by establishing a new relationship with KHNP, we will provide a common benefit to all of the nuclear power industry.”
"Through the nuclear cooperation workshop, we look forward to the practical cooperation of the nuclear industry in both countries to strengthen cooperation in the nuclear industry and to develop SMR, which is attracting worldwide attention," said Jeong Jae-Hoon, president of KHNP.
