KB Investment and Kakao Investment to invest in a robotics platform to drive the growth of the Korean robot market

Bigwave Robotics, which developed Marosol, an AI-powered Robotics Automation Matching Service, stated on Dec. 6 that it attracted a KRW 1.5 billion investment in pre-Series A from Kakao Investment and KB Investment(referred to as KB).

Marosol is the only online robotic automation platform in Korea that efficiently matches supply and demand companies. This investment is an opportunity for Marosol to concentrate on developing financing programs for market-proven robotics solutions and developing robot-as-a-service (RaaS) functions, the key to creating the future used-robot market.

The country’s leading domestic venture capital company’s primary investment in its first and only robot platform shows its passion for investing in the rapidly growing robot market. Furthermore, it sets a high value on a new business model’s influence on the robot ecosystem, which previously has focused on hardware only.

Kakao Investment’s principal lead Jeon Su-an said, “Within a year of its launch, Marosol has already become an essential platform in the robot industry. I highly appreciate the team’s capabilities and the excellence of a business model that not only solves the information asymmetry but also increases sales and monetization.”

KB’s venture capitalist Song Min-jae said, “Marosol is successfully and rapidly changing the robot market, pivoting supply companies to be more consumer-centric. After realizing the high level of satisfaction from customers, I decided to invest with the confidence that it would grow into a unicorn company within the robot industry.”

Kim Min-kyo, the CEO of Bigwave Robotics, said, “Marosol is growing as a service that both suppliers and customers are satisfied with.

In addition, we have closed our first IR round with confidence that Marosol’s business can dramatically grow. Working with partners that can collaborate in various ways, such as Kakao and KB, will significantly boost Marosol’s future growth.”

Meanwhile, according to a report released by the International Federation of Robotics (IFR) in 2020, the global robot market is expected to rapidly grow over the next five years at an average annual rate of 32%, reaching KRW 50 trillion in 2025.
