Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) succeeded in winning an order for an offshore plant within a week after winning the first ship order of the year last week.
DSME announced on January 12 that it won an order for one Field Control Station (FCS), which can supply electricity to deep-sea facilities and control gas fields, for 656.1 billion won from Chevron of the United States, one of the world's largest oil majors.
The ordered facility will be used in the Jansz-Io gas field, about 135 km away from Barrow Island on the west coast of Australia. It will be built at the Okpo Shipyard in Geoje and be completed by the third quarter of 2025. The gas field supplies gas to the Australian Gorgon LNG plant operated by Chevron.
“For the first time since 2014, DSME has succeeded in winning orders for offshore plants for two consecutive years," said a Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering official. "The company will does its best to deliver the highest quality equipment in a timely manner in order to answer the trust of ship owners.”
Meanwhile, DSME has won orders for ships and offshore plants worth about US$970 million for a total of three ships/unit, including two LNG carriers and one offshore plant. This is more than six times more than the same period last year.
