LG Electronics announced on January 12 that it has supplied a Plastic OLED (P-OLED) based infotainment In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) system to German automaker Mercedes-Benz AG.

LG Electronics said that Mercedes-Benz AG will install an in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system jointly developed by the two companies on the 2022 EQS model, a premium electric vehicle.

The infotainment system supplied by LG Display this time has three screens integrated into one: the instrument panel, the central information display (CID), and the passenger seat display (CDD, co-driver display).

In particular, it is convenient for the driver and front passenger to use each screen independently.

The use of advanced P-OLED display technology enables the infotainment system in the Mercedes-Benz EQS EV to deliver clear, sharp images and text and slim bezels with no physical knobs means occupants get an intuitive touch interface with refined haptics for a user experience (UX) with minimal learning curve.

LG’s IVI system was specifically designed to meet the needs of Mercedes-Benz AG with the curved, panoramic form factor required by the ultra-sleek sedan.

LG Electronics also improved the stability of the infotainment system. In the event of a frontal collision, the vehicle's occupants can minimize head injuries caused by parts inside the vehicle, such as the instrument panel.

The system also passed the frontal crash test that corresponds to "Occupant Protection in Interior Impact" among the US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).

“It’s an honor and a privilege to be able to work in close collaboration with a trusted partner such as Mercedes-Benz AG,” said Eun Seok-hyun, president of the LG Vehicle component Solutions Company. “Being named a valued supplier of automotive displays by Mercedes-Benz AG last year gives us immense pride in knowing that the partnership is showing great results.”

Meanwhile, LG Electronics’ Vehicle component Solutions (VS) Company is working with global automakers such as Mercedes-Benz AG to become a leading developer of connectivity, infotainment and ADAS solutions to deliver differentiated in-vehicle experiences.
