Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power(KHNP), a Korean nuclear power company, in collaboration with Iljin Electric, completed the production of two main transformers and auxiliary equipment at the Cernaboda Nuclear Power Plant in Romania, and shipped them on February 18.
The project is about 7 million EUR (about 10 billion won) in size, and KHNP is in charge of project management and quality management, and Iljin Electric is responsible for design and production of equipment.
The main transformer is a core facility of a nuclear power plant that converts the high voltage of the electricity produced by the generator and connects it to the power system.
KHNP is promoting participation in large follow-up projects such as the construction of tritium removal facilities and waste storage facilities in Romania.
The company is evaluating that this supply of main transformers will have a positive impact on future business orders by building trust with the client.
In addition, KHNP is expected to be able to solidify its position as a major supplier in the European operating and maintenance (O&M) business market.
The shipped equipment will go through the Masan Port in South Korea to export to Romania, and will be installed in Cernaboda Unit 1 around May or June.
“The Romanian Nuclear Power Corporation, the ordering company, is also highly buying the technology of our nuclear power plant company for the fact that it completed the production of an ultra-high voltage transformer that requires high technology even in difficult circumstances due to COVID-19," said President Jeong Jae-hoon of KHNP. "This achievement is thanks to the organic cooperation with Iljin Electric, and we will continue to actively support Korean nuclear power companies' advancement into overseas markets."
