DL E&C announced its plan to position itself as a Carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) Total Solution Provider.

On March 3, DL E&C signed a business agreement with the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) Carbon Mineral Flagship Project Group to establish a global commercialization cooperation system for carbon mineralization source technology.

Both sides plan to develop a new business model through the commercialization of CCUS R&D results.

Recently, interest in the CCUS project has increased worldwide. This is because CCUS technology is essential for carbon neutral implementation.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has also warned that the carbon emission reduction target set by the Paris Agreement cannot be achieved without CCUS technology.

Since last year, DL E&C has been concentrating its capabilities on the CCUS business to practice ESG (environmental, social, and governance) management and secure new growth engines.

The Carbon Mineral Flagship Project is a government-wide project to convert carbon resources into carbon resources, which was launched under the supervision of the South Korean Ministry of Science, Technology and Information and Communication to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

This project conducts various R&D activities to reduce carbon and convert industrial wastes into resources by reacting the captured carbon with coal ash generated from power plants or waste concrete from the redevelopment process.

The carbon reduction special cement developed by the project group is recognized as a global technology to the extent that the UNFCCC first approved it as a new method for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

As the project group's original technology was internationally recognized as a greenhouse gas reduction technology, the foundation for technology export was laid.

The two sides plan to build a demonstration plant for the commercialization of carbon mineralization source technology in March this year. They plan to come up with a plan to utilize carbon and coal ash generated from coal-fired power plants to commercialize them as eco-friendly aggregates and building materials.

Through this, the company plans to seek new businesses not only in Korea but also overseas, where the proportion of coal-fired power generation is high, such as Vietnam.
