LG Display today announced the final winners of the "2nd Global OLED Design Contest" co-hosted with British design media Dezeen.

LG Display is conducting the only global design competition in the display industry to discover innovative designs and customer experiences unique to OLEDs that are lightweight, flexible, transparent, and rollable.

More than 300 design experts from 45 countries participated in this contest, and innovative and unique ideas poured in.

LG Display selected the top 5 works that suggested new uses of OLED by comprehensively evaluating the originality, design aesthetics, usefulness, lifestyle improvement, and technology feasibility of the work.

The first place was awarded to the desk "Caelum" with a transparent OLED partition, the work of Turkish designer Afsar.

It is a design that combines a 27-inch transparent OLED with a partition covering the front of the desk.

The partition itself can be used as a display to secure a large space occupied by existing monitors, and when not in use, it is transparent like glass and harmonizes with the surrounding interior.

“I tried to design a desk that was best suited for telecommuting,” said Afsal. "I was able to design a desk with functionality and openness with transparent OLED technology.”

2nd place was taken by "Tiny", an all-in-one solution that combines a 32-inch rollable OLED with a folding shelf-type desk and speaker.

It is a work of Turkish designer Aras, and can be used in various ways, such as a simple office space, by unfolding the screen and shelf. When both the screen and the shelf are folded, only the speaker appears to be mounted on the wall, allowing efficient use of space.

In third place, the work title "VIVID", a freely movable touch-type transparent OLED, was selected. / Courtesy of LG Display

In third place, the work title "VIVID", a freely movable touch-type transparent OLED, was selected.

4th place was occupied by "Totem," which can be used by rolling a rollable OLED into a sound bar and rotating it in two modes: horizontally and vertically.

In 5th place, "Easel", which combines transparent OLED or general OLED with an easel-type stand to create a luxurious interior effect in everyday space, was selected.

A total of 88,000 euros (about 130 million won) will be given to the top five winning works, including 35,000 euros (about 50 million won) for the first place work.

After closely examining the possibility of commercialization in the future, the winning works are planned to be nurtured as new businesses in connection with product development.
