'The Night of Dosan', is the 132nd anniversary of Ahn Chang-ho whose pen name is Dosan, held at the Millennium Seoul Hilton Grand Ballroom at 18:30 on Tuesday 2nd November. The 21st event, conducted by the Do-san Academy Committee and sponsored by the Dosan Ahn Chang-ho Memorial Foundation and Young Korea Academy has held this event annually on his birthday 9th November since 1990. A devoted patriot and the nation's spiritual leader, Dosan, along with his fellow patriots, dedicated all his waking hours to national independence, cohesion and prosperity. The event honors his life with patriotic spirit and distinctive awards have been given since 1996 in addition to a special award of Dosan which has awarded to specific individuals since 2001. This year, as 300 eminent persons from various circles attended, it was conducted a week earlier due to the G20 Summit which will be held next week.
After pledging allegiance to the nation, Oh Myung, the Chairman of Dosan Academy, gave his welcoming speech before the main festivities of this event. The ceremony was presided over by Oh Dong-geon and he began his speech by citing that Dosan Ahn Chang-ho's word is emphasized to the students in school of DaeSung all the time, 'Do you love your country Be the first person of sound character. If you regard the efforts of the lovely people, be a doctor before you do. Even if you're not going to be doctor, fix your faults and be a person of sound character.' After the speech, the moment for remembering his life and spirit was offered to the public by showing a video of 'Dosan Ahn's life and spirit'.
Following the video was the awards ceremony for the people of Dosan who have demonstrated great respect and
distinction in collaboration with the Dosan Ahn Chang-ho Memorial Foundation for 2010. Baek Nak-hwan, a chairman of Dosan Ahn Chang-ho Memorial Foundation gave the educational award to Chung Jung-sun, Principal of Sungbo School in Dae-gu and Oh Myung, the Chairman of Dosan Academy gave an award for volunteer excellence to Shin Jae-yong, Director of Hae-sung Chinese Acupuncture and Herbal Clinic. The venture awards, having been in collaboration with Dosan Academy and NIA since 2006, gave to Lee Sang-Keun, is CEO of Ubiquoss Co. Ltd.
The winner of the adventure award, Chung Jung-sun, invented a personalized education methods and materials for a variety of handicapped students and presented his model of the special education to the public. It was a significant contribution to the education of disabled people. The award for volunteer excellence went to Shin Jae-yong who established 'DongEui Nandal' at his own expense and has been providing medical services and welfare activities for seniors, disabled people and children. The venture award was presented to Lee Sang-Keun who made a huge contribution to the development of internet industry management with a venture company using creative and challenging entrepreneurial spirit.
To celebrate the event, Yu Tae-Pyeongyang Arts, sang Pansori 'a line of a Heungbu's song' passionately and was enthusiastically applauded. He is now a student at the National High School of Tradition and has sung Pansori since the age of six. The his performance reached its peak as Ban Jae-chul, Director of Young Korea Academy, gave his celebration speech at dinner and Kim Shin-il, the former Deputy Prime Minister, raised his glass to wish everyone good health and continuing success. After dinner and conversation, a farewell performance provided was held as the final event.
