LG Energy Solution is strengthening cooperation with North American automaker Ford.
LG Energy Solution announced today that it will additionally increase battery supply in response to increased sales of Ford's popular electric vehicle model Mustang Mach-E and electric commercial vehicle E-Transit.
The company will double the size of the battery production line for Ford at its Polish plant by next year from the existing scale, and will continue to expand in sequence thereafter. In particular, this expansion is characterized by maximizing investment efficiency by utilizing existing production lines and upgrading facilities.
LG Energy Solution has been supplying batteries to Mustang Mach-E and E-Transit since the second half of 2020. The Mustang Mach-E recorded global sales of more than 55,000 units last year alone, and Ford continues to increase production of the Mustang Mach-E.
At the end of last year, Ford CEO Jim Farley tweeted that he had plans to increase production this year and more than triple the production capacity of the Mustang Mach-E by 2023.
Ford plans to invest 50 billion dollars (about 60 trillion won) in the electric vehicle sector by 2026 and produce more than 2 million electric vehicles annually.
In addition, Ford plans to increase its EV sales to more than 50% of its total sales by 2030.
Meanwhile, LG Energy Solution started cooperation by supplying batteries to Ford's Focus electric vehicles since 2011.
