After a series of updates that recently sparked concern, Facebook adds more to the list. It announced that sometime next week it will reveal its new face recognition feature. Although the feature will make it easier for tagging photos, many are concerned that it is an invasion of privacy.
Based on previous tags, this software gathers enough data to recognize people in photos. It is not certain how accurate it will be; however, it is similar to other software available in photo editing programs. Regardless of accuracy, people are uneasy about the thought of Facebook linking photos of them.
It is time for rational thinking. Even if Facebook was not to include this feature, there will still be a record on the web based off of who tagged who. Most profiles also contain information that would be considered private that users voluntarily provide. If this feature is a problem, Facebook will allow anyone to 'opt out' of it in just a click of a button!
