The Award ceremony of 22nd Global Software Contest of Korea is held at the Press Center

On December 16, the award ceremony of the 22nd Global Software Contest of Korea was held at the Press Center in Seoul. The 22nd Global Software Contest of Korea, which was hosted by IPAK, has been the nation's biggest and best SW contest since 1987. For those who are in SW fields such as research and academic circles as well as students at the middle & high schools levels, the contest has been established as a gateway to becoming an IT professional.

Cho Sung-kap, chairman of IPAK began the event by greeting all IT officials and personnel who gathered to celebrate the award ceremony. He said, "I would like thank you all for presenting the event. This year, we selected 42 works out of 133 applications, and from among the entries, we selected the Presidential award, the Prime Minister award, the Minister of Knowledge Economy award, and other prizes for excellent works. The Software Contest of Korea  intends to promote the SW development by discovering SW talents with new creative ideas and technologies. IPAK will take the lead to support these winners to positions as global software business."

Lee Kark-bum, chairman of the Presidential Council on Information Society

Soon, Lee Kark-bum, chairman of the Presidential Council on Information Society and the president of the 22nd Global Software Contest delivered, "I would like to congratulate all the winners of today. Many excellent works were selected through a strictly impartial judging process. We've got the green light for becoming a SW powerhouse through this competition. With the development of the SW industry, I hope we can be a software powerhouse and add a sense of national class."

Next was Kim Young-hwan, Member of the National Assembly and Chairman of the Knowledge Economy Committee. He started his congratulatory address by mentioning the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg who was named as Time Magazine's 2010 Person of the Year on Wednesday. "This social networking website, Facebook, currently has over half a billion users globally and is worth roughly US $33.7 billion, this is the perfect example of how to prove much creative software is important. I believe we also have what it takes for us to stand out in the SW field. Through this contest, I hope the national SW industry develops further and I will also work hard to make conditions better by upgrading the educational environment and related polices for the SW industry."

As the award ceremony carried on, the 'Software Contest of Korea' bestowed the President's Award to Lee Young-hee, President & CEO of Hyundai Information Technology Co., LTD.  The company created the 'Hi-Med CDSS' system which helps clinical decision and supports medical activities with the clinical algorithm which is regularized knowledge of doctors.

Kang Kyung-hum, CEO of Merlin Inc. and students from Sungkyunkwan University received the Prime Minister's Award along with Lee Wonbae, CEO of Paran Soft; Michael Park, President of Voice Eye; Kwak Jong-guen, Chief Executive Officer of UDMTEK; Song Hee-kyung, Managing Director of Daewoo Information Systems; and others received the Minister's Award.
