This week Amazon opened up an opportunity for Android App developers who have apps, but cannot afford the high-priced costs of Apple or Google. The stated fee that it would charge developers is US$99/ year. However, the fee will be waived for the first year which helps developers save on expenses that it cannot afford in the first year of business.
The reviews of this service are mixed as some established app developers show no intention of changing. Amazon is targeting the ‘new’ and ‘fresh’ businesses which need a way to enter the market that is cost-effective. In these cases, it appears that developers have nothing to lose by signing up for the first year.
What will happen to our app world The excitement of Amazon flooding with terrific apps is overwhelming! On the other side, there may be too many apps that it is hard to weed through the good and bad. Consumers may become frustrated as the web of apps will be enormous.
