On January 7, Korea Information Processing Society (KIPS) appointed Professor, Chung Tai-myung (tmchung@ece.skku.ac.kr) as the 15 president of KIPS at Sungykunkwan University. Mr. Chung began his inaugural address by saying, "KIPS will try harder to develop telecommunications and to take a leading role in the cyber-society. For this, we are planning to invigorate our research society and as well as to try to facilitate communication from academia.” The newly elected president went on to say, "We will practice convergence technology and this institution would rather lead by converging with another association, company, and foreign educational institution than to be a frog in a small pond.
By following the convergence age, we will publish IT convergence journals at non-IT institutions and to promote the active participation of the industry by interchanging between companies. This is because we equate that this industry field is the workplace of our followers. Also, we promise to expand on faculty interchange for developing our education system and internationally, we will promote CUTE 2011, which will be held in Jeju." He concluded by suggesting to all the members to cooperate for the future development of convergence technology.
KIPS has contributed to the development of the telecommunications industry and academic development by research activities for schools, public institutions, and industry firms. Also, they have achieved universalization of implementing technology and as well as the establishment of academic and theoretical structures.
