On January 13, 2011, the Seoul International 3D Fair kicked-off for the imaginative minds or people who are just interested in 3D film production. Under the slogan “See the world through the 3D,” this four day event will take place at the Seoul Trade Exhibition and Convention (SETEC). The fair also included a feature symposium. A key panelist for it was Kim Paul who is a Professor in the department of Digital Arts and Technology from the Seoul Institute of the Arts said, “After the acclaimed success of Avatar, today audiences are well aware of 3D content."
While other key speakers emphasized the importance of storytelling in 3D movies, Professor Kim, on the other hand, stressed on the importance of technology.
He said, "The story as itself is sure important, but I would like to say the technology is the key point when it comes to the movie. As we all know, the story is spread to the world as the technology develops."
He said, "The story itself is sure important, but I would like to say technology is the key point, when it comes to the movie. Creating 3D images won't be a problem anymore, but high-quality work is fundamental in order to overcome technical limitations. He emphasized by saying, "It might be difficult for Korea to produce 3D films because we do not have much experience. Therefore we need cooperation with the agencies in Hollywood. With this, the standardization and development of high skilled peoplepower are required for developing the 3D movie industry."
He went on to explain, “Nurturing human resources and a reorientation of the people who are already engaged in the current movie industry are needed as well. I believe Korea will make huge growth in the 3D industry due to our advanced IT technology.”
