Under the supervision of the Greenhouse Gas Inventory & Research Center of Korea and the sponsorship of the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, the steering committee of an international forum on cooperation for greenhouse gas reduction model has a meeting in Incheon from March 2 to 4, 2011.
Nine countries including Bangladesh, Cambodia, Kenya, Laos, Malaysia, Mozambique, Peru and Vietnam will participate in the meeting to give a presentation on each nation's infrastructure for greenhouse gas reduction on March 2.
On March 3, participants will discuss the operation of the forum and make an agreement. In addition, the Greenhouse Gas Inventory & Research Center of Korea will continuously maintain networks with participating countries and promote cooperation and support.
According to the Cancun Agreement, agreed at COP16 in Mexico in December, 2010, developing countries can register in NAMA(Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions) and submit national reports and inventories biennially to go through domestic verification and international review. Thus, it is essential to build international cooperation networks for sharing information on developing nations greenhouse gas reduction model.
Under the Framework Act on Low Carbon Green Growth, the Center supports setting greenhouse gas reduction target by nation and field and operates a comprehensive information system according to the international standard.
The agreement, which is to be adopted at the meeting, will include the followings :
- Cooperative projects such as joint researches and trainings will be developed and promoted for the purpose of enhancing capabilities to analyze greenhouse gas reduction and manage DB
- The steering committee will have a meeting twice a year and organize T/F, if necessary.
- Financial resources will be created mainly by Korea and additionally by voluntary sponsor by participating countries and international organizations.
