Citibank Korea Funds KRW298 Million to Nurture Next-generation of Financial Talent

Signing ceremony on financial talent development program

Citibank Korea (CEO Yung-Ku Ha) and Korea Institute of Finance (President Kim Tae-Joon) had a signing ceremony on financial talent development program and pledged KRW298 million (USD 264,000) at 2pm, March 10, 2011, at Da-dong HQ Bldg. of Citibank Korea. Since 2008, this program has been funded by Citi Foundation, hosted by KIF, and sponsored by the Financial Supervisory Service with an aim to nurture next generation of financial leaders who will contribute to competitiveness of local financial industry as well as build a sustainable pipeline of financial experts. KIF has been with this initiative since 2009, following KAIST Graduate School of Finance that worked together in 2008.

This year, students from around 150 universities and colleges nationwide are invited to finance book review/case competition that lasts from March to May, and 150 outstanding works will be entitled to scholarships. These recipients are also given opportunities to participate in mentoring program and career development lectures provided by CKI executives/employees, KIF researchers, professors from KAIST Graduate School of Finance, and FSS officials and join CSR activities. Outstanding students can even enjoy internship opportunities.

CEO Ha mentioned, "Through this contest, we expect students aspiring to be financial experts to show their passion, creativity and hidden talents." President Kim said, "I believe this program will contribute significantly to nurturing next generations of leaders who will take our financial industry to its next level."

The 2011 program detail is as below:

2011 Undergraduate Finance Case Competition

  • Eligibility: 150 teams from universities and colleges (Estimate)
  • Scholarship: Undergraduate: Finance Book Review /Case Competition (1 million krw/case)
  • Case of Excellence: Undergraduate: 1 Winner team (5 million krw), 2 first runner-ups (3.5 million krw), and 3 second runner-ups (2 million krw)
  • Additional benefits: Mentoring Program, Financial Lecture by Expert Group
  • CSR Program with Scholarship recipients
