As the Seoul Motor Show 2011 began with a blast, Porsche showcased the very special concept car, the 918 RSR for the first time in Asia. It is presented as a laboratory racecar, which is the marriage of hybrid technology with modern and innovative design. This midsize coupe looks very sexy with its sculpted carbon fiber exterior. It conceals a 563 horsepower, 10,300 rpm v8 engine with two front-wheel drive electric motors for a total of 767 horsepower.
Just like the previous model, 911 GT3 R Hybrid, the Porsche's 918 RSR features a flywheel booster system that stores energy when the vehicle breaks and then releases it in a 160 hp burst of speed at the press of a button.
Unfortunately the Porsche 918 RSR is only being showcased on Press Day, March 31; so many visitors to the show will not be able to see it. However, do not get too disappointed, Porsche introduces another hottie, Porsche 911 Carrera GTS during the show too!
The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS has gotten sportier with its wide-body and aerodynamic fine tuning. Thanks to Porsche's brand philosophy, "Intelligent Performance", the new sports car consumes no more fuel than the Carrera S in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), and is also priced very attractively because of the extensive standard equipment.
The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is also optically and technically distinguished from the other Carrera models via a range of other details. The power unit in the new 911 Carrera GTS has its roots in the 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine fitted in the Carrera S. It therefore offers power-increasing and fuel-saving technologies such as direct petrol injection and VarioCam Plus with camshaft adjustment and variable valve-stroke on the intake side.
Also, with its new intake system that improves the peak output, elasticity and power development thanks to a more voluminous torque curve in the lower and medium engine speed range.
The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is available as a Coupe and Cabriolet. Come and meet the new hottie! The Seoul Motor Show goes on till Apirl 11 at Kintex, Ilsan.
