President of KERI, Lyu Tae-hwan Receives Order of Science and Technology Merit

President of KERI, Lyu Tae-hwan

The President of Korean Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI), Lyu Tae-hwan received the Hyeoksin Medal on April 21 during the [44th Science Day] ceremony held at the Gwacheon National Science Museum, Eoulim hall, supervised by the Minster of Education, Science and Technology (MEST) and the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST).

In this ceremony, where Prime Minister Kim Hwang-sik  graced the occasion, President Lyu Tae-hwan received the Hyeoksin Medal authorized by the government, which is the highest ranking medal nominated in the history of KERI.

After joining Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) in 1970, President Lyu Tae-hwan for 41 years contributed greatly to the development of the electric power industry and to science, technology. Working for the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO) and the Kumho Nuclear Energy Construction, President Lyu established a foundation of independent nuclear construction technology and through achieving success in establishing Korean standard-type nuclear plants. Through all these efforts of collecting vast technical information and experience, he enabled the construction of the UAE nuclear power plant project.

Also during his time at the Korea Electric Power Corporation, President Lyu led the development of CO2 absorbent and other first-rate technology development. Not only contributing in the field of electric power, but in related industries too. President Lyu was able to obtain not only the most advanced technology, but customer satisfaction and in creating optimum atmosphere for institutional studies.

Especially in September of 2008, President Lyu was reappointed as the president of KERI. He created world-class technology by developing gas breaker testers, solar energy PCS, carbon tube transparent electrodes, nanolithography equipment, and three-phase electric motors.

By contributing greatly on developing original industrial technology, he was acknowledged as promoting Korean electronic technology and related industries, making them world-class. He also contributed in safe energy supply and in construction of the 4000MVA experimental plant, which enhanced Korea's position in the field of electric power construction.

President Lyu formed an appropriate organization culture through creative management style (fun management and communication management) as well as pouring his efforts into the KERI social service organization to make KERI a national organization with the highest level of effective management.

Along with President Lyu, Senior Technical Expert of General Admission Division, Hwang Bo-guk, Senior Researcher of Smart Grid Research Division, Lee Sang-ho, and Principal Research Engineer of Advanced Materials and Application Research Division, Jeong Dae-young received a citation from the Minister of Education, Science and Technology.

Held annually during the third week of April, the Minster of Education, Science and Technology is discovering and awarding scientific technicians who have contributed in the development of science, technology.
