It has been 40 years since the Ramsar Convention was adapted in the Iranian marine city, Ramsar in 1971. On the occasion of the International Year of Forests, the Ramsar Convention secretariat chose 'Forests for Water and Wetlands' as the theme of the World Wetland Day, February 2 and many countries have held various events focusing on healthy forests and wetlands.
The Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs designated the period from May 11 to 22 as the Wetland Week and plan to hold diverse events for experiencing wetlands.
[Wetland week commemorating ceremony: 14:30 May 11, 2011, Vicinity of Ungok wetland, Gochang, Jeollabuk-do] The wetland week commemorating ceremony is held in a dolmen site in the vicinity of Ungok wetland, Gochang, Jeollabuk-do on May 11. At the ceremony, those who significantly contributed to preserving wetlands receive citations from the president and the prime minister.
In addition, the Ramsar certificate will be presented to Ungok wetland, which was included in the Ramsar List of Wetlands in April and diverse events including a quiz show and a symposium will be held.
[Nationwide events for wetland week: '11.5.11~22] During the wetland week, 53 events for experiencing wetlands are held under the supervision of 24 local governments. Also, wetland eco-tours, an orchestra concert at wetlands, mud flat experience and observation of birds will be held.
