At the 25th OECD GLP working group meeting, held from April 5 to 7, Korea's GLP program was assessed to properly meet the OECD international standard.GLP(Good Laboratory Practice): With a view to guarantee reliability of a toxicity test of industrial chemical substances, medicines, cosmetics and pesticides, OECD made regulations on related matters including researchers, laboratories, equipments and test methods, etc.
The OECD evaluation team conducted an on-site evaluation visit to make assessment of the operation of Korea's GLP program from November 1 to 8 last year. The team assessed the entire items including a legal basis of GLP, designation of GLP testing institutes and their management and capabilities of national inspectors.
In particular, from November 2 to 5, 2010, the team observed a research on the actual condition of Korea's GLP testing institutes to assess capabilities of national inspectors, who take charge of evaluation and management of GLP testing institutes.
Korea, which became a member of OECD in 1996, has introduced and operated the GLP system for industrial chemical substances, medicines, cosmetics and pesticides since 1998. The Ministry of Environment, the Korea Food & Drug Administration and the Rural Development Administration jointly operates the GLP program.
