"We don't need to go up from this point," said Lee Kun-hee on his way back from the technical briefing for IOC members on the candidature for the 2018 Olympic Games on May 21. The head of Samsung, Lee Kun-hee commented about promoting PyeonChang's Olympic bid by saying, "From last year until now, there are some ups and downs, but it's taken an upturn. Yet, a small mistake won't be tolerated and the mood might change if we pre-celebrate our victory before it happens."

In relation to the reactions of the IOC members, Lee said, "They showed a favorable reaction; they even came up to me and said, 'Congratulations' and 'Great job'."Also, the South Koreans brought new star power to the show, with reigning Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-na making her international debut to promote Pyeongchang's bid.

The South Korean resort maintained its front-runner status among the other bidders, Munich and Annecy. The host city for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games will be voted in Durban, South Africa on July 6, 2011.
