An EAF (East Asia Forum) Inter-sessional Meeting will be held in Gyeongju May 26-27 with representatives of the governments of the ten ASEAN member states, Korea, China and Japan, and the ASEAN Secretariat. MOFAT's Deputy Director-General for South Asian and Pacific Affairs Suh Jeong-in will attend the Meeting as head of the Korean delegation.
In the Meeting, the member countries will discuss the schedule and agenda of the 9th EAF slated to take place in Beijing, China, this coming September, and exchange views on overall regional cooperation in East Asia, a topic of vigorous discussion sparked by the US and Russia's accession to the EAS (East Asia Summit) last year.
The EAF, a Korea-led cooperation project among the ASEAN+3 (Korea, China and Japan), is a joint public-private forum participated by the government, business and academic circles, aimed to seek ways for the countries in the region to enhance cooperation toward the envisioned regional integration in East Asia. The Forum's first session was held in Seoul in 2003, and the 8th of its kind in Da Lat, Vietnam, last year.
