With the signing of the "Arrangement on the Mutual Recognition of Driver's Licenses," on May 24, 2011, the Korean government and the state government of Washington, the US, agreed to mutually recognize non-commercial driver's licenses for Korean residents in the Washington state and vice versa.
The Korean government has been making consistent effort for the recognition of Korea's driving licenses in foreign countries to improve convenience for overseas Koreans. Up to date, a total of 128 countries have begun recognizing Korea's driving licenses either by signing an arrangement or agreeing to mutual
recognition.
The Korean government is keeping up its effort for the recognition of its driver's licenses in other US states and also in countries where an increasing number of Koreans visit or live.
