A delegation, headed by MOFAT's Director-General for Human Resources Lee Baek-soon and comprised of eleven MOFAT employees, will visit China May 29-June 4 at the invitation of the Chinese Foreign Ministry. The visit will mark the first of its kind under the "Korea-China exchange of young diplomats" program, agreed upon at the Korea-China Foreign Ministers' meeting in March 2011.
During its seven-day visit, the delegation will tour Beijing, Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region and Shanghai to visit the Chinese Foreign Ministry, think tanks on foreign relations and security, and various facilities, and meet with local government officials of these areas.The visits to Xinjiang, the political and administrative hub Beijing, and Shanghai, the financial and economic center, are expected to help the young Korean diplomats better understand the past, present and future of China, respectively.
The delegates, mostly young diplomats in their 20s and 30s, except for the director-general-level head and the director-level deputy head, are engaged in a variety of affairs related to China, the US, Japan, the Korean peninsula, regional cooperation, consular affairs, planning and political analysis. The visit to China is expected to serve as an opportunity for broad communication between young diplomats of Korea and China.
