Q: Would you please explain diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Korea

A: Mongolia and the Republic of Korea established diplomatic relations on March 26, 1990. According to an agreement to develop mutually complementary relations between the two countries in the 21st century, reached in a "Mongolia - Korea Joint Statement," which was released during the visit of the President of the Republic of Korea to Mongolia in 1999, the relations between the two countries have been expanding in all directions. The two countries enjoy active political relations at the high levels.

Q: What do you think of the status of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries

A: Bilateral trade turnover and Korean investment into Mongolia have grown. The Republic of Korea, actively supporting Mongolian democracy and reforms from an early date, has been rendering official development assistance to Mongolia. The number of Koreans and Mongolians visiting each other is increasing year by year. Direct cooperation between and among local and non-governmental organizations has also seen great expansion.

Q : Would you touch upon your idea for the improvement of IT cooperation between Mongolia and Korea

A: Korean IT technologies and products are well known and could be popular in this region. If Korean companies invest in Mongolia ( in three free trade zones or a Special Industrial Zone near UlanBator) and assemble IT products not only with lower labor and land costs but also with the support from various Mongolian government's incentives, the IT products assembled in Mongolia could be most competitive and easily sold on the basis of the Mongolians' knowledge of this market.
