The Korean government welcomes and supports UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's announcement of intention to run for a second term. The Korean government highly appreciates UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's remarkable contribution to world peace and human prosperity since his inauguration in 2007, and expects him to continue his contribution to the international community.
The former South Korean foreign minister has already received a wide range of support from members of the Security Council, including the United States and China - making his re-election bid as head of the UN almost certain. Mr. Ban's first term ends on December 31st and so far he remains unopposed in his bid to be re-elected as Secretary General.
