The Korea Environment Corporation said it successfully registered a landfill gas utilization CDM project under UNFCCC. The registered CDM project is to reduce about 30,565tons of greenhouse gas annually by generating electricity through a generator with a capacity of 2MW using landfill gas from a landfill in Gwangju-si. Since the registration of a landfill site CDM project of Mokpo in 2010, the Korea Environment Corporation successfully registered again a landfill CDM project, hardening its professionalism as a DOE in the field of environment.
Among four domestic landfill CDM projects registered under UNFCCC, two were conducted by foreign DOEs and two were by the Korea Environment Corporation. Since March 2010, when the corporation was designated as DOE by UN, it has become active in domestic and overseas markets, registering landfill gas CDM projects under UNFCCC for the first time in Korea and registering China's waterpower generation and waste gas generation CDM projects.
