LS Cables CMS (Condition Monitoring System) which is used for monitoring wind power received a certification from Germanischer Lloyd for the first time in Asia. LS announced on 9th that it was successfully certificated by document and field tests from Germanischer Lloyd which have a high authority in international wind power monitoring related certification. Wind power monitoring market is currently dominated by Switzerland and U.S.A such as SKF and GE. In this state, LS set a bridge to go abroad market by getting certification.
According to LS, wind turbine has a lot of problem in operation such as gear or power generator because mechanical pressure and abrasion are very serious. In addition, wind power plant is usually located on the shore or mountain, so it is not to access to fix. Thanks for this disadvantage, operating and maintaining cost accounts over one third of total construction cost. However, LS developed a real-time monitoring system which can detect the status of operation and the condition of counterparts by equipping vibrator sensor and speedometer on the bearing, shaft, memory box and generator.
This is a method recognizing a vibrating pattern caused by the increasing abrasion of specific counterparts. This system is especially proved to be successfully operated in YangYang of Kangwon Province, which two wind turbine of 1.5MW are located. Joe Junghyung Vice-president of Technology development department in LS Cable said "this certification refers that we have a world class knowhow in wind power solution. Taking this opportunity, we will accelerate global market invasion by adding monitoring system on WindSol, which is composed of wind power cables and kits as a solution product produced by LS".
