Han River Basin Environmental Office said it conducts joint water purification in cooperation with ROK Special Warfare Command, Namyangju-si and Yangpyung-gun from June 13 to 17. Intensive water purification will be carried out for one day in Yangsuri and four days in the area between Paldang Bridge and Gangdong Bridge.Wastes, piled in the water for a long time, have a tremendous impact on water ecosystem as well as water quality because harmful substances from them cause water pollution.

Han River Basin Environmental Office has annually conducted water purification in Paldang source water protection area and Jamsil source water protection area with participation by ROK Special Warfare Command and related local governments. Using diving equipments such as an oxygen tank and a rubber boat, divers from ROK Special Warfare Command move wastes on the skirts of the river and each local government collects them with garbage trucks. Since 2003, about 1,000 from local governments and the military have participated in water purification every year and collected 490tons of wastes. Han River Basin Environmental Office plans to continue preserving water quality and water ecosystem of the source water through constant water purification.
