Foreign Minister Kim Sung-Hwan will attend the UN General Assembly on the re-election of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on June 21. In the Assembly, the Foreign Minister will deliver a speech to extend his congratulations to Secretary General Ban on his re-election and announce his full support for Ban' success.
As the current term of the Secretary General is set to expire at the end of this year, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution (June 17) recommending to the General Assembly that Ban Ki-moon be appointed Secretary General of the United Nations for a second term of office from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2016. The UN General Assembly is scheduled to hold the plenary meeting on June 21 to adopt the resolution ofn he appointment of Ban Ki-moon as the ninth UN Secretary General. The Foreign Minister will meet with Ban in private, and host a reception with diplomatic corps to the UN to congratulate Ban on his re-election.
