Minnesota, USA -July 13, 2011 - Everyone in the U.S. is talking about it, Netflix notice of increases in subscription prices; in contrast, Amazon gave hints of a new Kindle that is even lower in price -yes, even lower than the last ones to hit the market - that should be released by October of this year. These prices changes are getting some 'booing' from the customers while others are giving a thumbs-up as customers eagerly wait for the arrival of their beloved products! If you are to keep up with the latest price chaos, be prepared to go crazy!

Netflix

Storms of outrage hit the net after Netflix formerly announced that it would be raising the prices of subscriptions by 60% for existing customers by September. Undoubtedly the price jump -$9.99/month to $15.98/month - was too much for anyone to stomach. Facebook statuses and posts on Netflix's fan page normally displayed disgust; however, there were a few individuals with 'nice' comments to make. For some reason they do not seem authentic. Perhaps Netflix created these comments by itself -through employees or stockholders or other individuals close to the company.

Netflix noted the reason for the dramatic price increase was due the high costs of shipping DVDs. After all, Netflix provides most of its 'good' movies on DVDs rather than its regular online streaming service. Maybe instead of the price change, it should have considered adding additional movies to the online streaming. Instead, they took this route which undeniably will result in a lot of people fleeing to join another service -through Amazon, Redbox, or some other service.

Now Facebook is filled with 'hate' groups of Netflix. It is yet to be seen if Netflix will respond and devise a new way to tackle the climbing shipping prices.

Kindle

Amazon and AT&T will be releasing a new Kindle, an ad-supported 3G model, which will cost only $139 - compared to the $189 price of the regular 3G model!  The collaboration and dramatic pricing difference is due to the strong competition in the e-reader market. Unfortunately Amazon's Kindle is not fairing as well as it would hope, so it must take a price cut to keep its models popular.

For years there were predictions that the e-reader would eventually decrease to be below $100 -most of the predictions did not come true in the time that was predicted. Yet, it is possible for it to occur prior to the holidays - Thanksgiving and Christmas time.
