Taking charge of environmental management in the 8th meeting of the Presidential Committee on Green Growth, the Ministry of Environment decided to conduct development and commercialization of CCS technology through cooperation with related departments. According to IEA, CCS technology will amount to 19percent of GHG reduction of the world in 2050.
As CCS technology has been commercialized and its legal framework has been made in many countries, the ministry has concretely thought about CCS technology. In particular, advanced countries including North America, Europe and Japan have actively conducted researches on CCS and implemented related regulations.
An affiliated organization of the Ministry of Environment held the 2nd International Environment Forum for CCS in Seoul on July 5, 2011 to share experience on researches and understand risk factors. The organization invited 8 experts from Canada, the U.S., Germany and Japan to have an opportunity to know about the current status of researches and monitoring and verification technologies of environmental management.
The International Environmental Forum for CCS, which has been held under the joint auspices of the National Institute of Environmental Research, the Korean Environment Corporation and the Korean Environmental Industry & Technology Institute since 2010, is expected to become a foothold for greenhouse gas reduction projects.
