Vice-Minister Seol Dong-Gun attended the Ministerial Roundtable of the Hong Kong Education Expo & Forum held in Hong Kong on July 14th to give a presentation on the development experience and know-how of Korea as an educational superpower, emphasizing the importance of education for co-prosperity.
Through the presentation titled "Challenges, Achievements, and the Future of Korean Education", Vice-Minister Seol explained how Korea was able to become an educational superpower within a short period of time due to the high fervor and investment in education. He also admitted that challenges remain, such as the fierce competition for college admission and the universities' lack of global competitiveness, introducing efforts to overcome such limitations, including enhanced creative character education and measures to nurture world-class universities.
A bilateral meeting was also held with China - another participant country of the ministerial roundtable - on the 14th to discuss measures to promote cooperation in education. On the 15th, a bilateral meeting was held with Kenneth Chen, the Under Secretary for Education of Hong Kong, where Vice-Minister Seol introduced the strategy of Korea's Smart Education, which had been of interest to Hong Kong, and discussed measures of cooperation to transfer to a future-oriented system in nurturing talents. Korea exhibited various contents and devices at the expo, presenting 3D videos and applications through hi-tech IT appliances and smart equipment, thereby contributing to the dissemination of Korean e-Learning.
