Minnesota, USA -July 19, 2011 - Finally, Amazon released a statement that it is offering a textbook rental service to students with a Kindle or those who downloaded the free Kindle app; impressively, it even estimated that students can save up to 80% off textbooks. The rental length could be anywhere between a month -great for short summer courses - up to almost a year. Think about it, students can enjoy the low-cost of books and still not carry around many bulky books.

If you are a student who worries that you may need the book for longer but do not want to pay the price upfront, you can extend the rental by even a day if you need. This way there is no stress over the book deactivating before you are completely done with it or having to pay the crazy fees that you would with a typical late book rental. Plus, there is always the option to buy it if you realize that it will be helpful to the rest of your studies.

A popular trend for college students is to sell their books after the course is completed; although that option is no longer there, they will be able to keep any notes and highlights they make throughout the rental period. If you are a good student, every bit of what you learned from the course will be packed into those notes; you may not even need to keep the book if you kept thorough notes. Over all, it will pay off to be a good student because Amazon is encouraging you to learn and study.

Amazon Kindle Vise President, Dave Limp, stated, "Students tell us that they enjoy the low prices we offer on new and used print textbooks. Now we're excited to offer students an option to rent Kindle textbooks and only pay for the time they need--with savings up to 80% off the print list price on a 30-day rental." - A clear indication that Amazon is focused on the needs of all its customers (in particular its growing crowd of students).

Although it is difficult to find textbooks in which there is an option for Kindle e-book rental right now, in the next several months it should be expected to quickly integrate into the Amazon textbook marketplace. If you plan to attend fall semester, expect that you will be able to enjoy your Kindle textbooks for a lot less!

If anyone else you know is returning to school, encourage him or her to purchase a Kindle or download the app that would allow him or her to access Kindle books from a computer or smartphone. Schooling is getting 'smarter', so use the latest technologies since you and everyone else can!
