Minnesota, USA -July 20, 2011 - If you are searching for ways to get to know friends better -aside from the typical daily information that you can find in posts on social networking sites such as Facebook and Google+ - you may want to try out the social networking site, Proust, which consists of personal questions that the closest of friends should know. The topics span a wide range, everything from love to favorites to 'looking back' (about the past). Even though some questions give an in-depth look at individuals, there are some questions which may be awkward for some people to answer. Yet, this is all about the experience of learning more significant information about friends and giving them more insight on you. It takes away the superficial experience of other social networks.

Proust divides its questions up into sections -what it calls 'chapters' - and there are impressively over 100 of them; these are broken down in order to be relevant towards users in particular parts of their lives. Basically, it is about the past, present, future, and the 'what ifs' in life. In addition, anyone can create a custom post to share a story, memory, or thought that is revealing of who he or she is as a person; this is a great replacement for the 'what's on your mind' which Facebook uses since it encourages the mentioning of memories.

For each story, users can make it more colorful by adding a photo, video, date, people, file, or place to resemble more of an interactive diary. All of this information literally compiles into a storybook which users can flip through the pages to see all the responses or stories that friends posted. If you and your friends make this a daily habit, you will create a storybook of your entire life. Be brave and attempt to answer all the questions that are available even if they make you feel a little uncomfortable. In time Proust will add more categories so that you can continue the 'sharing'.

In addition to the 'storybook' view, you can also look over your responses as well as your friends' responses in the form of a list, map, or timeline. If you know many people who travel or lived in multiple places, the map and timeline are a perfect way of viewing since you can visually see 'where' as well as 'when'. Let's face it, we all have confusing parts of our lives which we would want others to be able to follow.

If you are already a member of Facebook, you can use that login which quickly loads all of your Facebook contacts so that you can invite others to share. If you have any friends who do not use Facebook, you can invite them by e-mail. Most people do not reject this interaction since it does not contain the 'superficial' thoughts and activities that typically show up in posts on other social networks. As much as it may seem that I do not like Facebook, that interaction is also necessary to maintain good relationships.
