KDC Corporation (www.kdccorp.co.kr) has announced a new 19-inch rack server, the 'Dynamic 1040' series, which is optimized for small businesses and Internet data centers.
The new server model is based on 36 standard racks measuring 19-inch(W) x900 mm(D) x 1,800 mm(H). The company says that the 'Dynamic 1040' servers are capable of holding up to 72 servers while conventional servers hold as many as 36 1U servers. Because of this advantage, customers can economize their server purchasing expenses.

The model features switches on both front and rear sides, and frontside USB ports. It is equipped with four side fans with blow cooler, which will prevent overheating of the CPU in any event. It also enables rack installation in either side, thanks to flexible design of fixed brackets. The Dynamic 1040s can create SCSI system and dual network, all with the riser card. A KDC Corp. spokesperson said, "The Dynamic 1040 series makes efficient use of limited space while looking good by itself. The models are competitive in terms of price so we will target small firms and Webhosting markets in the second half."

Placing focus on the low price-type server market

The DYNAMIC 1040 series is a 19-inch RACK 1U system with a specially designed RACK-attached high-density server with Intel Pentium 4 processor. Other competitors' products, in general, possess a server with a Xeon processor.
Of particular note is that our product is inexpensive in comparison with the products of our domestic competitors. Based on its 32-year history and accumulated know-how, KDC Corp. is also able to provide customers with more benefits, including a consulting service.
Q. What was uppermost in your mind when you were developing the product
DYNAMIC 1040-G1/G2 is aimed at using two servers per 1U unit based on the 19-inch RACK (900 depth). In general, one server is being used per 1U in the case of fixing the existing server to RACK. On the other hand, it is possible to use two servers in the same space in the case of using DYNAMIC 1040-G1/G2 with a short body. Because of this, we were able to place focus on saving space and reducing the cost of IDC. Along with this, to make inroads into the low price-type server market, we solved the heat-generating problem, a shortcoming of the Pentium 4, by using more FANs than the servers of other companies.
Q. What market do you plan to approach with the DYNAMIC 1040-G1/G2-G1/G2
We have judged that the server market has entered a transition period with the replacement of the Pentium 3 server with Pentium 4 server. Accordingly, we plan to market the unit to domestic solution developers and IDCs, who are now replacing Pentium 3 servers based on DYNAMIC 1040-G1/G2-G1/G2, with Pentium 4s.

Q. What are your future business plans
On the occasion of the market debut of our 1U server, KDC Corp. plans to announce that development will begin on a two-way Xeon server, 2U, and 4U server by combining our expertise and advanced technology. At the same time, we are moving to develop products combining server and storage by making the best use of our storage technology.
